Additional Physical Format: Online version: Neal, Marie C. (Marie Catharine), Hawaiian Helicinidae. Honolulu, Hawaii, The Museum, (OCoLC) Hawaiian Helicinidae By MARIE c. NEAL INTRODUCTION The family Helicinidae is distributed from America westward to Mauritius and the Seychelles, including the West Indies, Central America, southern North America, northern South America, islands of the Pacific and Indian oceans, Australia, and eastern and southeastern Asia.

It also provides much needed info about the plight of Hawaii's endemic and indigenous bird species. Hawaii has lost more endemic birds to extinction than anywhere else in the world. This book gives the reader much needed insight and for the price, it is a terrific buy/5(32).

However, the book does not cover all of the species that you will see, and the range descriptions are very out of date (I think the last publication was Hawaiian Helicinidae book years ago). This book is useful if you are totally unfamiliar with the birds that can be found in Hawaii, either introduced or endemic/5.

Hawaii's Birds met my expectation: a book with pictures of the birds of Hawaii. While it was not advertised a comprehensive field guide, the book had good and ample information regarding field marks, range, habitat, song, etc. It was lacking such things as descriptions and pictures of juvenile versus adult birds or birds on the wing.4/5(32).

The Land Snail Family Helicinidae The Helicinidae represent a family of very remarkable land snails which is -due to its distribution limits- nearly unknown in Europe.

However, they comprise over described species that occur in roughly equal portions both in the tropical and subtropical zones of the New World as well as of indopacific and pacific islands including.

A completely new feeding pattern has been found among caterpillars native to Hawaii: certain geometrid larvae (commonly called “inchworms”) consume no leaves or other plant matter.

Instead, they perch inconspicuously along leaf edges and stems to seize insects that touch their posterior body section. By bending the front of their body backwards in a very rapid Cited by:   Story by Shannon Wianecki Cookeconcha hystricella lays a single, tiny, transparent egg that hatches into a baby snail.

However some species, notably Cornu aspersum, have been introduced and become established in numerous different areas worldwide.
